Shishi-odoshi

鹿おどし

もともとは、獣を追い払う装置だが、風雅を醸し出す装置として、日本庭園にある。

流れ込む水の力で、竹筒が下がり、石にあたり、よい「音色」を出す。

From the first, although it is equipment which drives off a beast, 

it is in a Japanese garden as equipment which brews tasteful elegance.

A bamboo pipe falls, and it hits a stone and takes out good "tone"

 with the power of the water flowing in.
